The DONUT Device

The Donut has now been in the Market Place for over 30 Years and has been appraised and approved by all the Major Offshore Oil, Gas and Drilling Operators and is classed as the Industry Standard for Personal Controlled Descent Devices. Donut has the following Approvals: European CE Mark, ISO 9000, Bahamas maritime authority, and the Nigerian Maritime Authority along with Letters of Non-Objection from the UK HSE, UK Dept for Transport, Brazilian Navy and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

It is virtually impossible for an evacuee to gain entry into a throw-over liferaft without the use of the Donut Personal Controlled Descent Device. This is due to the difficulty caused by opposing wind

and sea conditions. With the use of an additional strop that attaches to the painter line of the liferaft, the user is guided towards the liferaft during descent. More importantly, once in the water, the risk of being washed away is alleviated, providing the user a guaranteed entry to the safety of the liferaft.

Benefits of the Donut over Conventional Fixed Means of Evacuation – Chutes, Ladders, Knotted Ropes & Scramble Nets

The Donut being light and portable allows the User to move around the Installation to choose the best time and position to make their own escape under controlled conditions, either down to the Sea by locking the system off above the water, remaining dry, visible, warm & awaiting rescue, directly into a Rescue Craft, or alternatively to escape to a Kickover Liferaft, whereby a strop is connected from the Donut Harness to the Liferaft Painter Line, guiding the User towards the Raft. Once in the water and released from the main parts of the Donut system, the User is left tethered to the Painter Line via the strop to their Harness, alleviating the risk of being washed away, enabling a guaranteed entry into the liferaft. Without a physical connection to the Liferaft, Users may be swept away by the Tide and never reach the safety of the Raft.

The Donut can also be used as a lowering device, either using the Units' own Harness for walking wounded or for badly injured or unconscious personnel using a suitable rigid stretcher.

With the Donut system, Personnel are non-reliant on fixed means of escape such as Ladders, Knotted Ropes, Scramble Nets and Chutes.

If you cannot get to these systems you cannot use them. Donut is portable, allowing the user to choose the best time & position to make their escape

If there is a problem in the Sea down below these systems cannot be used. Again Donut is portable, allowing the user to choose the best time & position to make their escape

In the case of a multi-user system, you have to wait your turn. Donut is a personal device

Many systems are physically demanding to use such as ladders, knotted ropes, scramble nets and chutes especially when you are wearing other LSA equipment. Donut requires no physical effort.

When you get to sea level your only option is to drop into the water, making the evacuee susceptible to Hypothermia and floating away from the Installation and therefore making it more difficult in their retrieval. Donut allows the User to lock off above the water and await Rescue, remaining dry, visible and warm.

These systems cannot be used to evacuate casualties or injured personnel, unlike the DONUT system. The Donut can also be used as a lowering device, either using the Units' own Harness for walking wounded or for badly injured or unconscious personnel using a suitable rigid stretcher.
